The escalation ladder
Most performance concerns in an early education service do not start as a formal process. They start as something small you noticed in a room, a pattern you raised in a one on one, an observation a parent shared with you. This ladder helps you see where you are, and what the next step looks like if the concern does not resolve.
Step 1
Informal one on oneFirst conversation. Name the concern. Listen. Agree one thing to try.
Step 2
Record of Employee DiscussionThe concern has not resolved. Documented conversation, both parties sign.
Step 3
Written warning or PIPPattern continues, or the concern is serious. Formal letter or structured plan.
Step 4
Show cause or terminationFinal step if improvement does not happen, with advice and documentation.
